and here's why:
1. The troughs are strong enough to hold lots of dirt in (my prior wood ones were not).
2. There should be NO weeds since the trough does not come into direct contact with the ground.
3. Plants will grow at a nice working height.
4. They look cool.
We started by finding the troughs on craigslist. We hauled 'em home and then placed them between our baby navels (which take forever to grow but I'm not about to complain about that - again.)
There is a drainage gauge at the bottom that we pulled out using the hole for both water entry and drainage - and built a lil brick house around the area on the inside.
After tapping into a nearby drip system we connected all of the tubing until we had water flow.

Tomorrow? Dirt, seeds and herbs.
Whew.
Mama loves me a project.

I want to be you!! How do you do this? Can you come live my life? How will you keep the babies from destroying everything? So many questions! Basically, you continue to be my idol and you show me all the things I will never attain. Thanks, I need the humility, and that's no joke! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks great! Especially since I'm freezing cold here in Maryland and just love seeing all the green. :)
ReplyDeleteI want some of those oranges!! Some of my family lives in Chandler and they sent my husband back with a grapefruit from their backyard. It was the best I've ever tasted.
ReplyDeleteCracking up at Leila! Can't stop laughing!
ReplyDeleteI really want that trough!
Love the tubs! I wouldn't count on no weeds, though, since the seeds can travel by air ;). Still, should be much, much better - and I love the raised bed idea.
ReplyDeletep.s. I love your yard :).
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! I'm so impressed! I love the orange trees, the troughs & your yard!!! Come re-do my backyard. :-)
ReplyDeleteGREAT idea for container gardening! I'm an utter failure at gardening every year mostly because I don't water daily so I'm loving your irrigation system. Wish you could send some of that sun, warmth and green grass over to Maryland.
