I thought that this type of "one word" needlepoint would be perfect for beginning stitchers - only two colors, one kind of stitch, large canvas. My neighbor had been wanting to learn for years. Her mother, who had passed when she was a teen, was an avid stitcher. And so we talked about a word for her to stitch. She's Greek and she likes to celebrate - so we came up with: Opa! The little lady at the shop painted the canvas for us in a typewriter font and after one lesson she took off stitching and is nearly finished.
After that I decided my girls could use some widdlework too. We came up with some scripture that suited each of them and applied the same method.
We love because He first loved us
Let all that you do Be done in love
Run so as to win
Six geese, seven swans and a maid a milkin'
